Department of Biological Sciences

Biological Sciences at University of Denver

The Department of Biological Sciences at University of Denver provides students with comprehensive, high-quality experiences in learning and research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Many of our internationally recognized faculty have received University-wide awards for distinguished teaching and research.  Most of our faculty have received funded grants from federal agencies - the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. In addition, DU has state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation to support research endeavors.

Up-to-date and integrated undergraduate coursework and laboratory and field research experiences provide our students with strong backgrounds in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology, and ecology, and prepare them for admission to graduate programs and careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and biomedical sciences, as well as teaching, ecology and conservation, allied health, and biotechnology.

We also offer graduate programs at both the Master's and Doctoral levels.  Our graduate programs are research thesis programs.  This means that  each graduate student is sponsored by a faculty advisor and starts graduate research during the first year of graduate training.  Attainment of the graduate degree depends upon both accomplishment in selected coursework and submission and defense of a research thesis.
