University Undergraduate Requirements

All Biological Sciences majors and minors must satisfy these requirements.

  • Total of 183 qtr hrs (last 45 hours in residence)
  • 75 quarter hours of upper-division credits (courses numbered 2000 or above)
  • Foundations:
    • First-Year Seminar (4 hrs)
    • First-Year Writing (8 hrs)
    • AHUM - arts & humanities (8 hrs)
    • SOCS - social sciences (8 hrs)
    • CREX - creative expression (4 hrs)
    • Foreign Language (12 hrs)
    • Math & Computer Science (4 hrs plus additional hrs according to major)
    • NATS - natural sciences (waived for all Biology Majors and Biology Minors)
  • Thematic Core: These courses are taken after completing the Foundational requirements. All students whill take one course from each of the three thematic areas listed below. One Thematic Core course must be writing intensive.
    • CORE 24xx Communities and Environments (4 hrs)
    • CORE 25xx Self and Identities (4 hrs)
    • CORE 26xx Change and Continuity (4 hrs)
